Hi all. One of our poll dorset ewes gave birth to twins last Sat night.
Mother and young are doing well except for the fact that we have noticed she is
losing blood clots at the moment. This started yesterday.
The after birth came away ok, could these be some remnants of that? They look as if they have bits of skin attached.
Anyone any ideas before I call the vet?
cheers

Could have been triplets and one dead inside her - call your vet.

yep sounds like the vet

possibly hasn't cleansed properly, commercially we would give a 3 day course of penicillan and then if she was still bleeding or showing signs of being ill give a long acting penicillan giving a combined 6 day treatment.

Whatever it is still inside her it is heading in the right direction - outwards!
Antibiotic cover with a LA penicillin and she should be ok. Keep an eye on her though.

Haven't seen any blood today. She seems ok in herself, eating ok etc. No probs feeding the lambs.
We'll keep an eye on her over the weekend. I have got some antibiotic in the fridge, perhaps give her that.
cheers everyone.
