Hi, I have just about 25 acres of Orchard in Kent, near to Hever. Stocked with predominantly Bramley trees. My Father, back in the 70's used to pick them and sell them locally. Then came Golden Delicious from France and they became almost worthless overnight. So, we then sold them to Merrydown, this became un-viable in the 90's. So now, they grow, they drop, they rot, and its breaking my heart!
I'm looking for someone who wants to take it on. We have a tractor and cutter, a large cold store, but with no equipment in.
Is there anyone out there who wants to talk some more, who can use what we have in return for a small percentage of profit as and when the venture makes any. To be fair, I'm not that bothered as long as I can see the Orchard active again. I'm open to suggestions. I may invest if the proposition needs it.
Any one up for the challenge? Let me know

I wish you lived closer. I've been making cider commercially for the last two years and your 25 acres makes ny 200 trees look puny.

Our minds are whirling at this offer. A shame you are too far away as we would still need to work to have the input for the first few years
Fingers crossed somebody closer can take you up on it. It is a great opportunity for the right people. Good luck :fc:
Cross posted with Bodger. Cider is deft the way to go. Now a yuppy drink ;)

Howard, I wish there were more orchard owners like you :-))))) I really hope you find the right partner cause I think a lot of people would jump at the chance you are offering. :trophy: :trophy: :trophy:
(I would if I were 550 miles closer! )

Sounds like a great opportunity for someone - or some people. Have you heard of dragon orchard who run a community supported crop share scheme?

Something like that might be another possibility...

Thanks everyone. I'm still looking! Although as I've been doing some more research I'm quite liking the idea :-) - I'm thinking sheep grazing for a local farmer to keep the grass down and Apple Cider Vinegar. Any thoughts? Can you even produce ACV from Bramley's?
