I don't know about using goats milk but I made ice-cream last week using this recipe from the good food website:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/how_to_make_ice_cream_97157 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/how_to_make_ice_cream_97157)
I used granulated sugar and added chocolate peppermint leaves during the milk heating process and then strained. It has turned out brilliantly, it is so yummy! I'll definitely use this recipe again but double the quantities! I don't see why the milk couldn't be substituted for goats milk?

Nor me, my grandfather used dried milk powder during the war years and won the highest accolade in the British Ice cream Manufacturers Federation for 4 years running. Unfortunately I can't give you the recipe as my cousin has it and refuses to part with it.

Thanks Clarebelle :fc:

I make goat's milk ice cream all the time but I do have a very good ice cream maker. I've tried the bowl in the freezer method and it doesn't come out as well.
Here are two of my recipes, the second is more of a gelato and contains no eggs:

I also have a cream separator so I often use goat's cream and goat's milk which makes a lovely ice cream and you can add any flavouring to it.

I think I need an ice cream maker. I'm fed up with making soft cheese and we've got loads in the freezer,

I used a hand held whisk like it said in the good food recipe for mine and it turned out great, the exact consistency of ice cream, I'll definitely use it again

I'm waiting for my ice cream maker to arrive :excited: Would love some more recipe ideas. Just found a good one for elderflower sorbet if anyone is interested?

We made a goosberry and elderflower icecream the other day and it is gorgeous !

I have struggled with goats milk ice cream because of its tendency to form large ice crystals, whilst not having a cream separator or ice cream maker to make it smoother.
I found a great recipe the other day, simple but a bit messy!
Place 1/2 cup of milk in a sandwich bag with 1 tbsp sugar and 1/4 tsp vanilla essence.
Seal this bag, and place inside a larger sandwich bag with 2 cups ice and 1/2 cup rock salt.
Hold the bags in a towel as they will get very cold.
Shake so as to keep mixing the milk mixture, until it freezes, it can take up to about half an hour.
My first attempt didn't have enough ice, so it didn't quite freeze, but made a lovely icecream sundae/slushy/milkshake, but the second attempt made a very passable vanilla ice cream - great texture and flavour!
I have also heard it can be adapted to other flavours.

i was watching Fat vs Skinny programme last night and the reason the fat lady gave for being so obese was that her parents ran a sweetie shop and also made to-die-for homemade icecream :o :o :o :o

What is a 'good' ice cream maker then? Make and model?

Mine is a cheap one from Curry's but it does the job. I have tried without adding cream and it was tasty but then I made some with cream and that spoiled me! ;D The last few batches have been raspberry icecream and it is :yum: :yum: :yum: :yum: :yum: . I just put the cold milk and cream into the ice cream maker with caster sugar and flavouring/mashed fruit and the machine does the rest. Easy peasy.
