Hi Guys
I'm at a bit of a loss, brain frazzled, and wondering how I'm going to move a finished pig, in two halves, from abattoir to customer, using my own transport?
I've got a pick up, the back is covered, so that would be the easiest way, rather than in the cab I think. Env Health aren't fussed that I'm doing the transporting, it' a short journey, and as the meat is fresh/chilled I don't need temp controlled storage - the advice says to think about how you'll transport meat in a vehicle that may have had your sheep dogs in the back etc etc but doesn't give any actual suggestions.
Abattoir can't deliver and customer can't collect.
I can't find a cool box or any plastic storage box big enough. Anyone got any suggestions? Please?!

plastic sheet under and over carcus, and plenty of bags of ice. and a good strong shoulder to carry it.

Go to a shop that sells washing machines etc - they usually have huge plastic bags which they chuck - and also masses of cardboard, you could put that under the carcass which is wrapped in plastic and then a tarp/more cardboard on top

No good for the OP half pig but for smaller insulated polly boxes go to aquarium shops and ask if they have any. They get Live fish delivered in them and usually chuck them. They are clean as the fish are inside bags of water ::)

Cheap shower curtains then chuck them. Not enviromentally friendley but then is washing a sheet in water and industrially produced detergent any better.
Hang the pig half by the fore then cut and saw so that a bottom quarter drops onto your knee and maybe a free hand. Half a pig "slaughters" me so I always quarter whilst they hang in the shower curtains. Cheers "Norman bates"

They ought to cime in a large plastic wrapping/bag if you ask - just shove a load of ice packs in that - see if they will double-bag it if you are really worried.
