Title: Skin problem on my goat - please help?
Post by: Tree Farmer on June 18, 2013, 12:47:31 pm
Hi everyone,
I haven't posted for ages but I could really do with some advice as one of my goats, Rufus, has a funny skin thing going on and I have no idea what it is... I have attached some photos.
Basically they are like dry scaly lumps - one just below his collar on the back of his neck / shoulders, and some on the underside of his neck / chin.
Could it be lice?
I have been treating them with a louse powder anyway - but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.
Any thoughts would be very welcome...
Thank you,
Charlotte

Hard to see but I think I had something similar on one of mine. I would put it down to midge bite as they have been bad over past week here. Not sure on often the pour on stuff should be used but might be worth trying.

Can goats have some sort of oil to help their coat and skin?

Looks rather similar to sweet itch in horses - an allergy to midge bites.
I know Dectomax injections work well for horses prone to it, or general fly repellents.
Hope something keeps the bitey little creatures away, I know how it feels to be allergic to bites  :(
