Title: bath time

Hey all some advise needed
It's bath time for paddy and tessy but am not 100% on what to use,will I need a special equine shampoo or can I use any shampoo? They have had there feet washed before but not a full body so never used a soap on them

I used to use Tesco Coconut shampoo on Smokey. Not that I washed him very often - smells nice though and is about sixpence for a 50 litre drum (exaggerates for effect  :eyelashes: )

 :thumbsup:  I was wondering the same - Rosie seem's a bit stronger smelling than most horses and a wash might reduce the mozzies - I put citronella on her but it doesn't work for long.

I use Tesco Tea Tree shampoo on all my animals including my children! I only bath Jimmy the Fell pony with shampoo maybe twice a year. He does get regular washes with water as he gets sweaty after a ride. If you want to, you can pay exhorbitant amounts of money for special equine shampoo but it's not necessary unless your horse has a specific skin problem.

I also use tea tree shampoo, good for any itchy bits. Smells nice too. It's the same with mane deranged, human hairspray is just as good and miles cheaper....

I don't like to overwash my horses, I believe the grease in their coat is beneficial, but when they do have a shower I use a specific equine shampoo, it comes in a gallon tub (I have several horses) and is a combined shampoo/conditioner. The label says it is a safe and effective agent to kill bacteria, fungi and deactivate viruses. Can also be used on other animals so the dogs have it too after rolling in their wonderful unpleasantries. They all come up lovely and shiny and sweet smelling too!

dermoline horse shampoo is lovely and fresh smelling, easy to rinse and also kills lice.
