Title: Chicken Ailment
Post by: Floyd on May 29, 2013, 07:54:38 pm
Just came back after a few days away, during which my neighbour looked after the chickens.

I have 5 x 8 week old Hubbards.  However I have noticed that 2 of them have what looks like a large ballon on the chest.  It starts at the base of the neck and fills my hand.  It feels completly empty and there is no smell from the crop so I dont believe it is sour crop.

They are free ranging albeit very lazy. I have not provided them with perches so that there is no malformation of the breast.  They are not in an pain when squeezed, Any ideas?

At that age most hubbards are getting near that dreaded time. Sounds like the crop is full of water, are they empty in the morning ?
