Title: dead chick
Post by: sheila on July 16, 2009, 08:52:32 am
 When I went to let the hens out this morning I found one of my Three week old chicks dead on the floor.It was as stiff as a board but otherwise there was not a mark on it and it just looked as though it was sleeping. it was perfectly o.k. when it went to bed . Any ideas?

ive had that happen a couple of times;

1/ a guinea fowl chick drop dead for no reason aged 3-4wks

2/ 3 goslings out grazing, checked on them 15mins later and 1 has eaten so much it had choked to death

3/ nearly lost a chick due to getting chilled (this 1 is more fragile than the others i have)

It just happens sometimes.  Might have been a bad heart.

if you only lost one thats a good result as chicks die from many reasons, some just get stood one by the mother, dirty bums clogged up, etc
