Post by: Shropshirelass on May 20, 2013, 06:00:52 pm
Hi after talking to a few breeders I'm quite interested in trying goat meat but obviosly its not very common so I would like to know where I could find some - we're on the south shropshire/ herefordshire / powys borders x

Cockerham herd in Cumbria sell meat online. If you google there will be a few places around. Your butcher might be able to get some. It's yum but hard to take them to slaughter  :gloomy:

There is quite a few people sell goats meat online. As already said Cockerham who are in  Lancaster do as do Intakelane in Leeds.
If you cant find them I do have their contact details at home

I'm originally from Shropshire (Wellington) and as far as I know, goat meat is readily available in most of the Afro-Caribbean shops in the Telford area.

I've lived in Ireland for a while now but I'm sure things haven't changed that much and if they don't still sell it, they might be able to tell you where you can get it.

Not bad advice from a veggie! :innocent:

Ok thanks for that & "Maudlin-Matilda" I don't like the idea of buying from those or asian butchers because of the "Halal" factor so I'd like to try & get some from members or small butchers by us, I studied in Birmingham for a bit & Halal meat was always readily availble but its not for me - despite me being an avid meat eater x

Afro-Caribbean butchers do not usually observe halal butchery methods as they are rarely Islamic.

My 'two penneth' would be that an animal loses its life however the meat is killed and a skilled halal butcher generally causes less suffering to the animal than that suffered in a badly run 'conventional' slaughterhouse (and I have witnessed both).

I have quite a lot of goat meat in my freezer but Curry was 20 months when he went for slaughter so the meat needs to be cooked slowly. Tastes good though. I do chops in the slow cooker and the meat just falls off them. I would sell some but it is in huge pieces and frozen so it can't be split.
