What "make" of chook are you getting and are you getting a cockerel as well? How many are you getting? Cant wait to see the video!
-
more than likely lohmans as they where saved from going to the supermarket... only getting 4 until we get the smallholding, no cockerel...as we have close neighbours,
but we have promised ourselves some rear breeds when we do get the SH and yes..the odd cockerel,
-
congrats! :excited: :chook:
-
:excited: eggciting times ahead ( and free of course :yum: ). Looking forward to seeing the video

I bet you will sit listening to them talk, I know I did!!! They do talk you know
-
you don't have to convince me HGL.... i have had many a conversation
with my old chooks .... and when helen use to do the weeding..dalilah the duck would be between her feet, waiting for the worms...there use to be some strange conversations going on then :roflanim: :roflanim:
-
:roflanim: , I love the sound of chattering hens......
-
only 1/2 an hour before i leave :excited: you would think at the age of 51 i wouldn't be getting excited...this is better than christmas :roflanim:
anyway, its only 8 miles away..right near my shooting ground, well 1/2 a mile away.. from the ground..
its going to be so nice to have some chooks around again..... and real eggs :excited:
-
:excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: , have fun, you may well end up with an egg on the journey too!!
-
well got them home...its a bit drizzly to get the camera out ..poor little things look like they have come from a concentration camp.... ive seen more feathers on a duster.... it was weird watching them walk on grass for the 1st time ... but they soon got the taste for it  they have explored the house and one is sitting on the nest box already.... some real Love care and attention needed here... the guy gave me 5 for the price of 4 £20 which i thought was superb, as he often rescues as many as he can ...they have only been out for a few days .....
i got one girl who looks a little tired, i guess she may be a little stressed, ile keep my eye on her.... off to get some tonic later..i always found that picked them up ...
anyway... ile get some video later ...
lovely to have chooks again :excited:
-
just had 1st egg
-
:roflanim: , they always drop one as a thank you!!!
-
Ooooooh i had forgotten how bad the pecking order can be..... little chid who was a bit docile seems to have plucked up a bit now... but i get the feeling she is bottom of the order
anyway..as promised a short vid..nothing special..due to weather...

They look grand. They'll soon have all their feathers back! They seem to have made themselves at home already! Hope you start getting a great supply of eggs very soon.

when they are ready..no rush...the poor little things have worked hard over the last 18 months... lovely to see them dust bathing and eating the grass.... they will get pampered ..i just chucked a few worms in :roflanim: it was almost like..whats that... then the fun began :roflanim:
just need to get a tonic now... local shop didn't stock it..
they really are settling in
-
I remember seeing a few of mine laying on thier sides, I thought they were dead but they had made dust holes and were sun bathing...I downsized a while ago now but mine did very well, lovely birds and so tame!!
-
have any of you used any tonics ? we use to use life guard... ...
-
I never did and they still picked up very quickly, although most of my ex battery hens were in not bad shape, 2 were fat birds (like me) I do give additional naughty treats to them though!! They also eat loads and loads!
-
 these little chooks have picked me right up.... i hadn't realised how great they are ...
ducks in a few weeks :innocent: :excited:
-
settling in no probs.... really starting to pick up now..and eggs every morning
-
I think chickens are the easiest and most rewarding farm animal, it you have the right set up they are almost trouble free......I would love some fancy ones but waiting to see where we move to...looking forward to some photos!!! Funny how battery farmed hens have so strong charactors...I miss my Big sandy, I re homed her, she used to sit near the gate waiting for me....slightly smaller sandy :innocent:
-
funny you should say that Sandy... they have only been here since sunday and already they seem to becoming tame..i had one tonight come up and take some food from the hand......i am so glad i have gone down this route
-
Its very touching indeed to see then enjoying the freedom.....I had 2 cocky ones that use to run everywhere, I called them the 2 Jimmies, then big Sandy was so lovely and tame...very interesting that they have such diverse charactors after being farmed in a cage!!
