Title: where are the eggs?
Post by: Le Recoignot on May 10, 2013, 07:34:49 pm
I have 3 Warren laying hens which had been laying for about 4 weeks from point of lay, living with 5 yet to lay (due to start in about 2 weeks) female ducks. I moved them recently into their own shed and run since which the eggs stopped coming. Any ideas / reasons? One of the hens likes to bully the ducks which is one of the reasons I moved them.

Any advice much appreciated. Ta!

Hens don't like change Le Recoignot. It could be 2 weeks before they start again.

Just guessing but I know that my hens do like their routine and that changes can stop them laying, temporarily.  Moving into a new house and run may have caused this. if they have been sharing accomodation with ducks they may be sorting out the new 'pecking order' now that it is just the three of them.  Is their new home more open to the weather or near to other animals/ things that may be upsetting them.? Hens use a tremendous amount of energy laying eggs so anything that upsets their normally contented lives can  show itself by them stopping laying.  If they are healthy and have access to plenty of good qualiity layers pellets they will probably begin to lay again quite quickly. Good luck

Thanks for the response guys! Now back happily with the ducks and laying again, they seem much happier with the company and greater space both internally and externally. The frommels  are due to start laying in a week or too... we hope!

i think I responded to your question re the Kubota Chris, I wish you well with your search. I had a look to see where you are based and believe it is in the Dordogne a bit far or you could have borrowed my tractor (I dont fancy another marathon journey on it just yet!)
