Title: Another I'm new to this game' question
Post by: Lizmar on July 13, 2009, 12:39:07 pm
I have a field.  Just under an acre.  It is all grass.  Very long grass.  Had been hand mowing it (took all day), but rain stopped me. My lovely kind next door neighbour Farmer Paddy offered to come in and cut it for me with the tractor - I thought that was great, but with all the rain, I now have a field with lots of heaps of long soggy rotting grass.  Managed to clear some yesterday, but again the rain stopped me - thankfully as my back was killing me!  My question is - what will happen if I leave it and what do I do with the enormous mountain of wet long weedy grass I have managed to move to the corner of the field.  Getting a sit on mower delivered this week, but need to get the field manageable before I can use it!

Start off six compost bins?   ;D ;D ;D

Sorry, not helpful, I know, but just trying to envisage that amount of grass.  I have a garden with that amount of grass but my ride on takes care of it and I dump the grass in piles under the trees where it dries off nicely and gives me weed free areas under them for shade for the dogs.   Mine is garden grass so wouldn't grow too high if left (about a foot I think), but yours should be meadow or filed so i can imagine the size of the piles.  I wonder if your friendly Paddy the Framer might uplift it for you if he has time?  He's bound to haev somewhere on hsi farm to dump it - there's always a 'midden' on a  farm!
