Title: Umbilical Hernia
Post by: Blinkers on May 03, 2013, 03:21:13 pm
What does it look like???    I've got one female kid whose 'cord' has now dried up but she has a sort of hazlenut size swelling in its place.   She's absolutely fine in herself but didn't think much of me prodding it earlier today.
Look forward to some feedback on possibilities as to diagnosis.   I might try and take a photo of it later on.
Thanks all.

Well, in humans exactly as you describe,so presumably the same in goats.
It may go on it's own, may not cause any problems but if a bit of gut comes through and twists or swells and gets trapped and causes a blockage it would be serious.  I'd just keep an eye on it for a while and see what happens.
I assume she's pooing alright.

 Thanks Dogwalker  .   Yep she's perfectly normal other than this little add-on  but will keep close eye on it as you say.   I almost feel it will dry up and drop off, but will see.    Thanks ever so for your help.
