Post by: Hillview Farm on May 01, 2013, 02:27:27 pm
Just wanted a rough idea of either selling or buying duck eggs.

What breed? To hatch or eat?

Fertile: Half a dozen White Campbell about £5, 6 x Cayuga from about £8, 6 x Aylesbuy for £6.
---------------
I'd charge the same if they said they are for eating as all my girls run with a drake.

My neighbour charges £1.40 for 6 at his gate.  I thought they were very reasonably priced to be honest. As they are fertile, have now got some under a light sussex hen

Is that the north south divide?   £1.40  to £3  is quite a difference

Reason for my asking was to see if 1.80 was a reasonable price. My eggs are massive and I have to buy special boxes!

I sell mine at work (Berkshire) for £2 for 6 Indian runner duck eggs.

I sell my hen eggs at £1.75 for 6.

I am hardly a big business though, I have 4 duck and 6 hens.

I've been selling mine to friends for £1.50 a half dozen (£1.30 for the hens eggs). I just looked at the Tescos price and went suitably under - and they are a lot bigger than the chicken eggs. Actually I've not had so much demand for the duck eggs - I've been cleared out of chicken eggs (partly because only two are laying) but the duck eggs are building. A couple of people have been very sure they'd love chicken eggs but no way would they want duck eggs - quite surprised myself.
