Is there anyone out there that has very good experience with ixworths as i need advise... harry.... anyone know how i can add a photo to this topic
-
click on reply, a message box opens, below it on teh left you will see in blue - additional options, click on that. Below you will see the word 'attach', and 'browse'. Click on browse and your own computer files will come up. click on pictures and then on the one you want to post. Click post, job done. But your photo must be less than 128kbs in size so best plan is to open it in your photo programme, reduce it, and save to your desktop with a different name.

as a follow up i have this pic of my ixworth cockeral. it has pinkish legs a pea comb, purchased as from show winning stock, 1 year later selling surplas birds someone wanted ixworth cockerals, and sent someone to collect 5 of mine, when they arrived at there new home the buyer phoned and told me they wernt ixworths, they match every image ive seen on the web, and other birds ive seen live labeled as ixworths, also hatched more ixworths from another repected breeder and at 12 weeks they seem to be the same as the disputed ones, i dont know, looking for experienced opinions.

Looks like an Ixworth Cockerel to me - here's another one from the Ixworth website

If they don't think they are Ixworths do they want you to take them back or are they looking for a rebate? Take them back for a full refund or tell them to go away - they may be trying on a con!

no ...... they went to a 55million £ estate in ixworth suffolk up the road 20 miles,he wanted new blood, i offered to return the chq but he said no problem i have plenty of money dont bother as he understood i was genuine, but i could go and look at his
-
Sounds genuine then, I would ask if you can go and see his to compare them. Then at least you'll have more knowledge, and he'll know you're genuine too.

heres an update on my query... the potential buyer said ixworths should be 14 - 16lb at 20 weeks. any comments welcome

I don't know diddly squat about weights of chickens but that's an awful lot of bird! Can they walk at that weight?

Harry, I have great sympathy with you. I breed ixworths myself and, like all creatures, each one differs slightly.
The original Ixworth was a cross breed itself, so it carries charecteristics of all the breeds. some of mine are smaller than others, some have slightly different combs etc. If you want uniformity I suppose you have to consider gm, which as a whole is not for us smallholders to tinker with. We have to use selective breeding. what your customer is really saying is he wants big ixworths, to go with his big ego. I recently bought some beautiful pullets from someone who has decided to give up with birds for a while. they were from different prizewinning strains, but once in amongst mine you can't tell them apart unless you really scrutinise them. my boys look very much like yours but I doubt they were that weight at that age. I have some sassos which I am going to cross with the ixworths to create a bigger meatier bird, if it works. Angie is right, try and get mr big to show you what he means, he might even let you borrow some of his superstock for breeding. My breeding programme is very much new, so I have not got any youngsters up to adult stage yet, but by next year I hope to see the full results of which of my stock gives the best offspring. I will ley you know how it goes as you are welcomr to have some fertile eggs.
-
if a old breed could get to that weight that quickly why would they have spent money on breeding hybrid table birds.
taken from omlet web site
The Ixworth is well suited to free ranging. The male weighs around 9lbs and the female 7lbs. Hens do tend towards broodiness
sounds like the chap was boasting or something

I have been down the yard to look at my ixys, I picked up my biggest boy who is @15months old and he might be @12 lbs or more, if he stayed still long enough to get get a good idea.
-
thanks for offer carl but thinking of jacking in ixworths, maybe x a cockeral with something, not decided yet, if anyone in east anglia wants about 15 18 week old ixworths contact me.
-
harry their is no way a pure ixworth will make 16lb at 20 weeks in my honest opinion.
we have ixworths from top breeders and there is no way they are that weight!!
Hubbards will do it. The issue is ixworths have been breed with other birds to increase size, it may be your buyer has got some form of cross breed that looks like an ixy ???
