Title: Pig feed share
Post by: nic99 on April 23, 2013, 04:41:16 pm
I was totally outraged by the price of pig feed today - £11.10 for a 20kg sack of Dodson & Horrell pellets at my local feed store. Having run out of feed and nowhere else to buy it from, I am being forced to pay it.
I am looking into getting a bulk load delivered from east coast viners which works out substantially cheaper. I have been quoted £341, which works out at £6.82 per 20kg. The price difference is just incredible! However, I won't be able to use up 1 tonne of food within the 3 months use by date.
Is there anybody local to me in North Fife (or even not so local, even factoring in petrol costs, it will still likely work out cheaper) who would like to share a tonne of food with me?
Or alternatively has anybody recently had a delivery and would be willing to sell me some at cost?

Hi
If you have any other animals you might want to consider a mixed 1 tonne of food? We do this with Heygates and get pig food, sheep food and chicken food. We dont have many pigs (4 at mo.) and dont worry about a 3 month shelf life, we probably order every 5 months or less frequently and pigs have been fine.

Looking at Heygates site they don't say they deliver their bagged feeds direct. Says only bulk loose feed min 4 tonnes.

Heygates do mix bags of food. We just recived a mixed, 1 tonne order of chicken, lamb, beet, and pig food last week!

Thanks for the advice, heygates won't deliver to me, but I am currently in discussions with marriages about getting a mixed tonne of pig and poultry feed. Don't think east coast viners would mix theirs, as their poultry feed is milled at a seperate location.

ECV will give you poultry feed along with your other feed order like dry dog food, sow rolls and/or weaner pellets in a ton or more order.
They hold poultry feed along with other animal feed at their main depo.

I don't think they would want to ship all the way to Wiltshire though. Will have to look for something closer.
