Title: Muscovey Ducks - observations and behaviours.
Post by: MAK on April 22, 2013, 08:27:50 pm
Between us I think that we may have observed how quirky the Muscovey can be or can share behaviours that will help others. Please post your observations, knowledge or comments from previous threads so we can build a simple knowledge base that will help newbies ( and me).
Please can we share our experiences below as simple one linners. No hi-jacking please. :-J

1. A one year old daughter will gather up and sit on her mum's, aunt's and her own eggs.

2.  Two broody ducks can sit on eggs together quite happily.

3. A mum will discard an egg that she believes is infertile. She can move it out of the nest and hutch and may chuck it in the pond.

They keep the flys down and can eat a 4 inch grass hopper with just a few crunches.

My wife loves them but I think they're of an aquired visage!

if they cock their heads to one side you will see their eye on a potential threat from the sky.

They can choke to death on a sheep placenta but it's easy, if long, to pull back out  :roflanim:

Females are bright, males less so with only the usual on their minds.  In an effort to lose over-amorous males, the female will fly low, with him flapping to keep up, then she swoops over a fence, leaving the males to crash  :&> :&> .  Older males soon become too heavy to fly.

Agh Fleecewife - the joys of keeping animals.

The female will fuss and bathe after the male has had his way with her ( maybe becuase he NEVER washes).
