Two of our ewes lambed today (another 14 to go, gulp!) The ewes are Shetlands (tho sadly unreg) but the ram is a prizewinning registered moorit shetland gentleman.
Three lambs, two ewes and one ram. Heres a piccie of the ram lamb. Havent got a good pic of the ewe single yet, but she is a lovely colour, fawn katmoget with a white stripe on each side, amazing! will try to get a pic of her.
This one has been named Walter (Raleigh)(http://i342.photobucket.com/albums/o405/lachlanandmarcus/P1030237_zps9722a0ef.jpg) (http://s342.photobucket.com/user/lachlanandmarcus/media/P1030237_zps9722a0ef.jpg.html) cos of the ruff.....:-DD

Before you decide to steal Walter Raleigh, you may wish to take Tiramisu the single ewe lamb also born yesterday.......what a colouring!!!

Congratulations on the start of your broken nights sleeps. A lovely start :sheep:  :sheep: Really nice colours :knit:

The start has gone a bit downhill as the two ewes are off their feed and scouring :(
Have had the vet out already as its so out of character for my lovely Coco especially, so altho she wasnt at deaths door i knew she wasnt right. They don't know what's wrong, could be fluke even tho our land is dry and even tho coco at least was fluke dosed. For the meantime they've had antibiotics, vitamin injection B12 and I've got antibiotics to jab them with for another 2 days plus they are dropping off some stuff to put in the drinking water. we are also going to send off poo samples to get an accurate fluke and worm diagnosis, no point treatingn them with the wrong wormer or flukicide and it will help for the others to know what's up.
Now really worried the other 14 ewes to lamb are going to have the same issues - bouncy and healthy until they lamb and then poorly, not even sure where I would put them all.
Thankfully the ewes are in decent body condition and the lambs are currently still getting milk and drinking - but if it all goes belly up then it will be bottle o clock :-oooo
So fingers crossed for Tiramisu, Walter and Pingu and for Coco and Spotty the ewes.....

Most of our ryelands went of their food and scoured a bit after lambing, i do not know why but they're fine now.

Thankyou Cosmo, that has given me hope!!

did the ewes eat the afterbirth? I understand this can make them scour , never had a ewe eat an afterbirth so i can't say for certain it does tho

 Lovely lambs. Hope the ewes are okay. :fc:

I know coco didn't cos she passed it after I brought her in so I removed it. Not sure about Spotty. I think quite a few do tho, or else the crows get it.
Coco had a raised temperature so there's something going on with her. I think she looks slightly brighter today but still haven't seen her eat anything, although she is now drinking which is a relief.
Thankfully the other ewes haven't started lambing yet, I'm kind of wondering if these two lambed early because they weren't feeling right in themselves.

Both ewes are now nibbling hay and drinking water, hurrah. Have given them their second antibiotic jab and they also have lactade as well as plain water available. Hopefully they are turning the corner.
However Walter (the black and white lamb) has been casually limboing though the sheep hurdle pen walls to go walkabout :-D wonder if he will be so athletic when he is 'arranged' tomorrow :-)))

Good luck with the lambing - 15 done and 5 to go here - love your Walter, the little black shetlands are just lovely, we have one wee black ewe lamb with a white mark on her head called her star!

Walter and Star, what a pair!!

Lovely names and yes, if I were nearer, I may just steal the both of them ;D
One of our ewes had poo like brown water a couple of days after lambing. She looked dreadful. We got her outside as it was lovely and sunny and after a couple of drenches of 'multilamb' , a LA antibiotic and some treats that no other ewes were lucky enough to get she's picking up. Whilst the poo is still 'squishy' it ain't like a tap turned on anymore. Chocolate raisins tomorrow hopefully.

Update is that the ladies are back to full appetite and the lambs keep limboing out of the hurdle bars and trotting around the steading :excited: Thankfully there is a stable door at the end! They have also reached the boing-ing bouncy stage. I would put them out now the antibiotic course is finished but I need to drench them once first probably so that needs the lab results which are unlikely before Thursday. Cant wait for them to go out! :sheep: :sheep: The rest of the ewes have been crossing their legs since last Friday and look fit to burst, I think they are waiting for rain and snow....

Just to update on our Shetland lambing progress, half the flock have now lambed - seven out of 14.
We have 8 ewe lambs and only 3 boys!! (it was 6:1 until last night so it is improving!)
All mothered up all healthy, no interventions. I LOVE Shetlands, that's over 60 lambs to date in our sheep keeping and not a single intervention, touch wood.
Following the worm and fluke testing and the positive worm result they are all being wormed and then kept in for 24 hours before they go out with the other mums and lambs.
Pingu the extra friendly girl still remembers me and races across for a head and chin scratch when I call her, but knows who her mum is and where the milk bar is :-)))
Hopefully the other 7 will lamb as easily, although 4 lambs were born at nearly 9pm last night which is slightly unusual!!
Colours so far, white, white with tan spots, black and white, black, fawn katmoget and moorit
-
Glad to hear of no further problems! I love the fawn ewe lamb - I may just have to get one myself to add to my eclectic mix of sheep! Off to Google katmoget .. ::)
-
the little ewe lamb looks similar to my shetland x portland lambs they are just bit darker,

Sorry to hear that. I'm guessing it could be E Coli. The poo sample will show if thats right. We had two ewes with this, out of 58 this year, They presented with scouruing and off the food, just as you describe, but about 2 weeks after lambing. We brought each in, with the lambs, and gave them a shot of Metacam and Alamycin, plus ewe-go, a sort of glucose tonic that we get from the vet. Good news is both recovered after clsoe supervision, bad news was one had mastitis as a secondary problem. Be viglient for that because if you catch it quick you can do soemthinga about it. We are now feeding the lambs which are still with the mother. Good luck guys

Just seen the other posts, so glad it was just a worm issue. Remember the Ecoli possibility for the future though, I didnt realise that most sheep ahve it and it can be triggered by stress. Good luck with the remainder
