Title: Slug bait
Post by: funkyfish on April 19, 2013, 12:18:16 am
Slug bait is EVIL, poor dog at work very very poorly, found and chewed a bottle, ate a small handfull. Owner brought straight in to us, but it's fitting and will most likely die.

So no sleep for me and not a happy out come.

There has to be a better/safer way of contoling pests? have seen lots of cats die after eating the 'pet safe' ones.

Sorry to read your post, but thanks for making us aware that even the 'pet safe' slug pellets are a danger. Wasn't aware of that, and I will certainly circulate that bit of info.
Same goes for rat/mouse poison. Gets into the food chain and causes all sorts of problems, not only with pets but with birds etc too.
Don't use the stuff folks.

I use beer to drown slugs or just chop them in half with a hoe - you can get hundreds in an evening and the birds will eat what's left

What you need to get rid of slugs are about 10 muscovy ducks! Mine love a slug or twenty! They've even been known to eat half grown rats  :o . These were shot not poisoned.

I put cans of water with honey or sugar around my veg plot, works very well. should say I put them half way in the ground.
