Title: Hen brutality
Post by: jameslindsay on July 06, 2009, 11:55:25 am
Was outside earlier and I heard one of the hens make a hellava noise. I turned round to see her hanging from  the mouth of Toggi (my 10 year old Toggenburg cross goat). No idea what he was thinking of as he sees the hens all the time. He dropped her as soon as I made eye contact with him and as she dropped to the ground so did his mouthful of tail feathers. It was funny, but not if you were the chook I suppose.

James, if this was the hen that adopted me yesterday (wonky tail) I will not leave her to be exposed to any more of this brutality! She might go missing next  time I'm coming round! Better watch that goat, lol - they do eat everything, so I've heard! :&>

Kerstin, funnily enough it was the one with the wonky tail. :chook:

Maybe the goat is just trying to tidy her tail up?

Don't let the goats in with the chickens - you've plenty of land for that! Simples ;)

I wondered if James could be convinced to give me this particular hen, Annie. She followed me around yesterday and didn't mind being picked up, so lovely compared to my shy ducks. I nearly put her in my pocket, lol. Would be a good excuse that she's getting bullied by a goat! :&>

Definitely - I think she needs re-homing due to bullying lol

Annie and Kerstin I can see you having the RSPCA round here!!!! ha ha.

Kesrtin - get your own misfit chook, my one is going nowhere! She is such a wee character and so unafraid of anything and is always the first to run and see me.

I honestly think that Toggi lifter her by mistake as he really is a gentle sort and for a goat never gets himself in trouble  - and that's unusual!

Your hen (and the poor short-lived Matilda) has me converted, lol. I'm just looking for more accommodation and the right thing will pop up. Maybe chicks...:&>

I think you will always look for excuses for Toggi!  I would too, he's a lovely lad! But one more report of bullying and the Chicken Police will be on your doorstep! lol :chook: :chook: :chook: :chook: :chook:
