Title: Inappropriate ads on the website - please report
Post by: Dan on April 12, 2013, 11:48:44 am
Hello all

As you'll probably have noticed we have adverts on the TAS forum to help pay for the server the site runs on and the bandwidth we use.

Some of these ads are served from an external source, and although we disallow some broad categories of ad like gambling, we have no fine control over what ads might appear in future.

This means that from time to time you might see an ad that you feel is not appropriate - if this happens please report it and we'll block the ad. For example this morning we blocked a Filipino 'dating' site after a report by a member (thanks Sally).  :)

Thanks,

Dan

Not sure it is inappropriate, many a small holder (or big holder)  has no time for finding a nice grateful  helper :innocent: .....so why not.. ?

Please can you make a note of the display URL and report it, or take a screen shot? We need to know a bit more about the ad to block it.

Thanks,

Dan

Ah, yes, that's a different form of advertising, completely unsanctioned!

Most spam is cleaned off the forum at about 8am, so if you're on the site at 6am you may see the posts from our friendly neighbourhood kitchen fitters kindly offering their services. Sometimes in Cincinatti and other far-flung places!

We do what we can to prevent stuff like this ever getting posted, but some will always get through.

This is not fair, firstly my efforts to get a Filipino wife are thwarted and now I can't find someone to do my kitchen. What is the world coming to. :roflanim:

Can you tell me the best way to report the adverts? :dunce:  Should I post something on this thread or make a comment where the add appears. There is one that keeps popping up apparently telling you how many people are "spying " on your e-mails. I've been trying to ignore it but it is really annoying me now. >:(

Post on this thread, PM me or email [email protected]

If you can send a pic of it that would be really helpful so we can identify it.

I'm not Happy about all this advertising it wont be long before it gets out of hand then you will be hijacked by search pages etc .Thinking of giving it a miss for a bit .

Hmm, there's no more advertising on the forum now than there was 3 years ago.

We run a single Google ad after the first post, and a fixed banner ad from a direct advertiser at the top of some boards. Same as it's always been, so I'm not sure what you're referring to?  ???

I can assure you that you there is not and will not be malware on TAS that can do anything like hijack your browser. We only use Google's advertising network for external ads.

We'd rather not run ads, but they contribute towards the rental of a fairly hefty server, and we will always try to balance their relevance with how annoying they might be, hence this thread.

I've never seen that one!

The ads can be contextual, so if you're in France you'll see a different set of ads to those of us in the UK, and if you're signed into a Google account you may see ads that reflect your search history or other activity.

You can opt-out of ads by clicking the small 'Ad Choices' link in the top right corner of any ad.

This forum is a lot more ad free that some I go on ....especially late at night, when I am around more, I notice some boards are overrun with the things.   :)
