Title: Constipated Piglet
Post by: LouiseK on April 11, 2013, 08:00:01 am
I have a 5 week old piglet that is quite bloated and appears to be constipated.  The vet put a needle into his side today to see if anything came out but nothing did, but has prescribed some meds for the bloating.  He has access to fresh water and always drink it and is also eating small amounts but his stomach makes very loud rumbling sounds after eating.  Any advice would be very welcome  :)

Have you tried giving him castor oil.

Yup, castor oil (or veggie oil) in a big syringe and straight to the back of the throat

Or you could try giving the piglet some melon to eat or fresh fruit juice in the water bowl will help to soften the stool too. It's most likely to be because he's making the switch from mum's milk to hard feed.

Poor wee guy, hope he's feeling better soon.
