Hi all
We've ended up with the lungs from two pigs sent to slaughter last week - what on earth do I do with them?
They're in a bag with the heart (eeeeek) and liver (can handle this), and I really don't know what to do (esp as I'm a veggie!).
Many thanks
Steph

Hi. I'm not sure my other half would eat them so I guess disposal. Although if one was to eat them, how would you cook them. Ta! Steph

The delightful 'lights'. Mince them up and add to your faggot mix, add's a wonderful texture ;)
Haven't tried myself yet, but might be worth a try adding to a meatball mix, again, to add something texture wise.

Or you can boil them and give them to the dogs.

i was going to say faggots. I've got a super recipe for them. If anyone fancies a go at making them, then folks can PM me for the recipe. They're delicious.

My dogs love lungs, liver and heart. Bit smelly when cooking (specially the lungs) but they wolf down and it's really good for them, far better than processed tinned stuff. Cats also love liver but not the other two.

My dogs love them. I cut them into chunks, then dry them out in a low oven and they turn into "puffed jerky".
-
I second smithycraft, we cut up and freeze in chunks, and then stick in a tray in bottom of the aga (when it is on -it would normally be off by now but isn't!!! Flippin weather!) and then re freeze as 'dog treats'. I am also a veggie, but OH isn't - but he turned his nose up at the faggot idea.
They do not need to be cooked at too high a temperature. The dog also likes the juice as a gravy ( I add a bit of water to the bottom of the tray).
I like the puffed jerkey similie -very nice :)

Ooo I'm liking the dog treats idea. As I said, I don't eat meat (although appreciate why people want to rear rare breed pigs) but the other half doesn't cook, so I end up doing any handling! We've not sent many pigs to slaughter as most of our pigs sell at weaner age,I hadn't realised how many sausages you get from a pig!
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I feed mine to the dogs raw, much easier ;D
Chop em up with scissors, lungs are a bit too bouncy for a knife
