Title: Daffy duck
Post by: Lizt on July 02, 2009, 05:54:07 pm
I have a duck that has suddenly started behaving strangely. It has no obvious injuries but occasionally falls over with one wing out - the other ducks ignore it now. We bought five last autumn so they are all the same age and have been a very close knit community up until this started last week. It doesn't mix with the other ducks anymore and wanders around aimlessly - it does appear to be quite healthy. We wondered about poisoning of some kind but it it is in the same pen as other poultry and none of them are affected. We are thinking we should kill it but not sure if it would be safe to eat. Any ideas?

Hi Liz

No idea what could be wrong with the wee thing but in t he circumstances I don't think eating it should be an option. I would give it a few more days and see if anything changes, as you said it looks healthy enough, just odd. Let us know what happens, good luck.

Thanks JL
ducks behaviour became more confused and the other ducks and hens started to peck at it so we have killed it - thought it not safe to eat but no idea what caused it. It's a duck mystery and no mistake.

It probably had a stroke - one of mine had that.  Have just returned from holiday otherwise I'd have posted this sooner
