so !! if i start off with 2- 3 wieners, how much room do you give them..i was thinking..and please correct me ..as i am just doing homework.., my idea was to have 3 paddocks about 10mts x 10 mts..& i would swap paddock every 3-4 weeks giving the 1st then 2nd paddock time to recover.. is this the right route to take ...if not please give me what you do

With weaners, don't bother about having multiple enclosures for your pigs to give your paddocks time to recover, because they wont. Most pigs will root and root and have a whale of a time. Its what they do naturally and its far better to wait until they are in the freezer before you do anything with the land that they've been on. Then finish the job that they've started and have it ploughed before reseeding, or using it to grow vegetables.

That makes so much sense.., i need to start thinking on the lines of rotation, getting the most out of plots,
Thanks OTG, ive been in the town to long :innocent:

I'm learning with you John. Those pigs in my signature are virtually the first ones we ever had. The other pigs are my kids, they're now 30,27 and 23 years old. :o We've had a big break from keeping pigs and we're about to start again. We've had a few weaners in the last couple of years to faten in the pig sty but next weekend we have a sow coming that we're going to try and keep in a paddock. I've been told loads of stories about pigs being able to bypass electric fences using various ploys and I'm certainly feeling a little trepidation about whats to follow. Maybe we'll be able to compare notes. :fc:

I can't wait to get the property..still a long way to go..but once i get a bee in my bonnet as they say :excited:
having a small holding has been a dream for many years... we do have a property in france that we where going to do up and farm... but due to mums illness and my little sister who has cerbal palsy and is getting worse with age, we felt we couldn't leave..so that place is now up for sale.... (I do wish we could buy over here, what the french sale land for ) :huff:
we have got to the point now where.. dreams are fine..but you only live once... and getting a small holding will, full fill our dream...
as for comparing notes.... ile be watching your post for guidance :excited:
