Just wondering what the fertility rate is for Guinea Fowl. Appx 20 eggs went into the incubator; all infertile.
-
i just got some ... when talking to the guy i bought them from middle to end of this month best to get eggs for incubating,,, but am sure some1 more experianced will come along
-
We bought some from someone in the next village last year and successfully hatched 4 out of 6. So don't despair you've been unlucky.
Wher did you get your eggs, it might be they don't travel well.

Thanks for the replies.
The eggs are from my own Guinea Fowl. Young birds, which could be a reason.
Have duck eggs in the incubator now; will try Guinea Fowl eggs again after this incubating period, the months wait might make all the difference to the lads maturing.
Maybe let me know via this thread how you get on with hatching yours?
-
Might be a silly question but you do have a male Guinea Fowl
-
.......... the months wait might make all the difference to the lads maturing.
Yes.

We had them and they where a pain in the rear end. Although they always came in at night they always layed away no matter how late we kept them in so in turn this meant that we spent hours searching for nests in the fields.
very few of our eggs didnt hatch. we didnt find 1 nest untill she was sitting and it had 28 eggs in it and all but 2 hatched ::)

Hatched some in incubator, kept them in until they were able to fly, let them out..................and never saw them again. ::)

Ours were in the living room for the first three weeks, then we kept them shut in their eventual night roost for three weeks and they come back every night and come to call. Finding eggs is always surprising - what other type of bird would lay in the middle of a cattle yard ....?

Talking of stock that disappear into the wild blue yonder, when we first moved to where we are now, I bought a trio of Muscovys. I too let them out and the two females flew twice around the house like racing pigeons and cleared off never to be seen again. I was left with the drake, who was the ugliest beggar I'd ever seen. Hew was also a heck of a pain to pluck. ::)

I forgot to say that I have some freebie guineafowl eggs coming sometime this month. I don't know why I said yes to them, because the last lot we had were unbearably noisy.
