Post by: tizaala on April 02, 2013, 06:41:44 am
We have had below freezing temperatures for the last 6 weeks and only 1 payment £25,
Where the hell is it ?
I suspect it 's a government plot to kill off us OAP's

I am sure my Mum has had some, she is in North Notts. I telephone her tomorrow and will check.
Fingers crossed it arrives soon.

There's an annual Winter fuel payment for anyone over 60 which comes in about November, then if your specific area drops in temperature below a certain level for a certain length of time you get additional payments for cold weather.

You could get between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills if you were born on or before 5 July 1951. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

You should get a Winter Fuel Payment automatically if you get the State Pension or another social security benefit (not Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction or Child Benefit).

If you qualify but don’t get paid automatically, you’ll need to make a claim. You get £25 for each 7 day period of very cold weather between 1 November and 31 March.

After each period of very cold weather in your area, you should get a payment within 14 working days. It’s paid into the same bank or building society account as your benefit payments.

This website should help - you can input a postcode to see if a payment is due

Checked my post code on the link, we have had 5 cold weather periods between  NOV -APRIL 2nd,
so the cut off is March , ergo , no more payments as we are now Summer (sic)?
Minus 9 C this morning by the way...love summers like this :innocent:

Spoke to Mother this eve and she got her winter fuel money + 2 x £25 cold weather payments.

I hope they bend the end date rules for this year as it is still so bloomin' cold out there!

Tizaala, if you believe you are due payments you can claim - there's a link on that website
