Title: selling to abattoir
Post by: lokismum on March 24, 2013, 11:06:44 pm
has anyone sold extra pigs to the abattoir ???
if so would you mind sharing how much you got per kg or per pig ?
did you still have to pay slaughter cost ?
and what area are you in?

sorry just a bit of research
and thought it might be interesting to see how it differs

Yes I have done it once but never again. Had to cull a sow last year and already had loads of sausages so the abattoir had her. Only pay £1 per kilo, they pay slaughter cost. I'm in Wales but the abattoir is in Shropshire.

Hi BB,

I assume you mean £1 / kilo dead weight at that?!

Hi Pete,
Yes unfortunately it was for dead weight. Not a bad little earner for them as their sausages sell for about £6 per kilo.

Get an extra freezer of freecycle and find a corner to shove it in and have sausages made. Don't give your pork away for a quid. I.
