Title: Renting a house
Post by: rispainfarm on March 17, 2013, 04:23:32 pm
A friend of ours is looking for a house in the country (ish) to rent from about June onwards as close to Edinburgh as possible. Must take dogs, does anyone know if there is an estate that might be worth him approaching. They can go out as far as 30 mile radius. Not looking for silly prices though.

should try the ESPC  (www.espc.com (http://www.espc.com)) and BSPC (www.bspc.co.uk (http://www.bspc.co.uk)) websites, they will also have properties for rent. Border estate agents are (amongst others) Culllen Killshaw (we have rented through them in the past), but all should be advertising on the bspc website.

Yes they have tried all the usual websites but there is  nothing around and they are getting worried.  Sometimes these estate sort of houses are usually found by word of mouth,.

we many come to that one day and i will ask on here too, my brother in law was lucky to know a land owner in Leicestershire who had lots of rented properties on his land, another friend rents one with stables and now has chickens!!
I would try to find a land agent too, other than putting houses to let, like on Gumtree, there are a few other sites too but I must check as i have currently given up looking
They could post an add in a farming area place like the cattle market in Stirling or put an add on Gmtree yourself, I have an add on there and have had interest, also there was a house for sale localy that they would let so try that too!!
Good luck and do let us know, its hard, funny thing is when we moved up here we h ad to rent and had a choice of 2, one had just been let to some one else so we ended up with a farm cottage and although damp was wonderful, the farmer was so friendly with us too, they are knocked down now and posh houses built in thier place, never remember how I found that but it was with an agent and not on right move or any of those sites!!

Just remembered Sarah Beeny has a good site, not too many houses but worth a look
http://www.tepilo.com/ (http://www.tepilo.com/)
Try some of the small adds and also E Bay may have some you have not seen

i have the opposite problem, i have a 3 bed property  near aberdeen, with land for rent and so far no interest in the land what so ever. currently on aspc but feel maybe a rural website would be more suitable.
