Title: Pigs at Lanark
Post by: Daisys Mum on March 14, 2013, 06:54:04 pm
Made the mistake of going to watch the pigs being sold, first to go through was a 3 1/2 yr old osb, she made £15 and in the next pen were her 3 weaners who had not been weaned, they went for £5 each. I felt like crying they looked so miserable, little tails hanging down  desperate to get through to mum. I had to leave then as I was getting rather wound up about them, thank goodness we hadn't taken the trailer. However if the owner was around I'm sure he will be in no doubt what I thought of him. Hopefully his parents will be getting married soon!!  :pig: :'(

Yes Daisys Mum that is a very sad sight I'm sure. There is no excuse for sending a sow and unweaned piglets to be sold separately. I don't like going to the market so many sad pigs there.

Are there no rules about unweaned piglets being sold at market surely this can't be allowed

Shame on the auctioneer I say, as well as the seller who allowed such a thing to happen.  That is a disgrace.   :'(

Why where they so cheap? Round us people are asking £35-40 for weaner.

That's part of the reason I've stopped going to the market on pig day  :'( :'( :'(

It breaks my heart to see pigs in poor condition, or stressed by the environment and then selling for peanuts. Plus, if I'd been there I'd probably have bid on them myself and I can't have any more pigs at the moment  :innocent:
