I have the opportunity to rent a wood from a neighbour but not sure what a reasonable rent is. It is about 10 acres and mainly conifer but they are planted randomly and quite far apart so good light in there. A large dingle runs through it and the fencing is pretty good so all I will need is a bit of electric fence in places and sort some water. Would be interested in what you think is reasonable.Thanks

half a pig for the freezer? depends what footing you're renting on, a friendly arrangement or a formal contract.

Friendly footing but he's not interested in Pork wants cash. If you saw how he lives you would understand.

If you didn't rent the land would it potentially be of use / interest to anyone else? Has he had any return from it in the past? Is it ideally located for your use and will you have good access?

Hi Pete,
The land wouldn't be used by anyone else, he only cuts a few trees to burn. He is a nice guy but has issues mental health etc. He rents all his fields to another neighbour but the woods is of no use to him. I have easy access straight up his track and through a gate into the wood.

If it were me I'd be interested to see if he would sell it, I'd love to own 10 acres of woodland!
However, given that it appears there is no competition for use of the land and its of little use to anyone else anyway .... and you have good access .... I would be more than happy to pay £200 PA or a bit more if necessary. I imagine it will stand up to the weather well and not turn into a bud bath readily.
If I could make use of any timber for a woodburner then its even more attractive.
