I left the kitchen for 10 minutes and in that time Jock one of my setters pulled my coat down and managed to extract a foil pack of ibuprofen 400's. I picked them up and noticed a loose one on the floor - and turned around to see him throwing up! He may have eaten between 1 and 4 tablets - because I don't know how many were left in the pack. We've been to the vets who gave him something to make him throw up and we've come away with charcoal and some tablets. Back tomorrow to do blood tests to make sure his kidneys are alright. Apparently even if he only ate one tablet it is way over the dose that he could have - and he's a 30kg dog! We are hoping because he threw up so quickly that very little was absorbed, but there is a risk to his kidneys :-( Just thought I'd post this because I know ibuprofen was dangerous to dogs but I had no idea just how little they could tolerate.

this happened to my old lurcher, lucily i had her to the vest in 15mins and she was fine. good luck.

Its VERY toxic! Pls phone vets ASAP-they can work out toxic dose- best to make dog vomit anyway and give activated charcoal.

:fc: ,hope things are Ok but dogs are like children, they will eat stuff they shouldn't if given the chance, I know that obvious but we all forget what they can reach etc.
at least you were around, I suppose some dogs eat medication when there alone and then suffer the consequences, anyway, look forward to a situ e update.

:fc: for the dog.

Is he OK, it is VERY toxic to dogs.

Hi all, he is brighter this morning, but still only 50% of his usual bounciness. He is having blood and urine tests today to check his kidneys. I am hoping that as he threw up 5 minutes after having them that not much has been absorbed :fc: :fc: . It was a long night last night - I kept getting up to check on him, and its going to be a long day till we get the results. :fc:

I had to do a late night dash to the vets last week as Pilot stole a 350gm jar of Green and BLacks 70% cocoa.
A jab of apomorphine and he threw his guts up fortunately he is fine now but we were lucky.
Everything crossed here for your pup :fc: :fc: :fc:

This happened to our spaniel when she was a pup (12 weeks old!), got her to the vets who made her sick and she was fine, had a tube of probiotic to settle her stomach and on a rice/chicken diet for a few days after.

MY OH's guide dog grabbed a Celebrex (another sort of anti-inflammatory) that I dropped before I could stop him. OH rang the vet and we told him the ingredients but fortunately they weren't harmful althought vet said he might sleep well. I was amazed that he had even eaten it but then, labradors and anything they can fit in their mouths...

well blood and urine samples tested and results back - all normal :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. I need to keep a close eye on him for a few days, but all should be ok. I will now keep a very close eye on where any tablets are.

Just back from Crufts and first thing I did after checking emails was come on her to see how he is. Glad he threw up straight away - that would have got rid of most of the toxins, and exactly what is recommended for Brufen ingestion. He was very lucky!
