Title: hello all
Post by: tricetra on February 22, 2013, 12:34:47 pm
hi,

we have a small holding in wales and have been here for the past 4 years. We have 4 registered Balwen ewes, 2 non-registered, 2 Brecknock Cheviots and 1 Badger-face cross. Due to lamb for the first time this year and have had one surprise already. one of the registered ewes we purchased who wasnt suppose to have been in lamb, so said the breeder,, has had a beautiful ram lamb. He is aptly named Mr Valentine due to being born on valentines day. :excited:  It certainly wasnt our rams offspring!!!, BOGOF haha.

we also have OSB pigs and our sow is due to farrow on the 7th of march.....all go as usual.

we have a few chickens, ducks and guinea fowl, plus the usual cats and dogs.
I did have a standard-bred filly which I backed myself and then sold on but we are more interested now producing for the table. (no pun intended due to the resent news!)

I hope to find this site a useful addition to all the books we have read, nothing better than to get the practical advice when dealing with small time farming.

I am not a complete novice, working as a qualified Veterinary nursing Assistant for the past 9 years in a SA practice. Plus spent most of my childhood at friends farms etc.

Anyway just to say hi to you all and will keep you posted on our lambing experience.  :eyelashes:

Thank you for the lovely welcome.

A quick up date, we now have had a population explosion of 10 lambs and 10 piglets, with only 1 more ewe to lamb.

all is well except one ewe who had twins 3 days ago and  has rejected one of the twins. any advice appreciated.

have done another post for this.

cheers.
