Does anyone have any recommendations? We have used Scotch Premier in Inverurie before but they were so useless last time and didn't deliver to the butcher when they were supposed to and cased all sorts of grief so I want to go elsewhere.
-
We have used SP but then collected from them and taken it to a local cutter/ butcher. Have used the chap in Westhill for a pig (Kevin Smith I think) and Wark Farm near us for sheep.
But have also user Millers of Speyside in Grantown, they don't do butchery any more ( actually they farmed it out quite a lot of the time anyway) but they can arrange it or you can collect it and take it to a butcher/ cutter.
Millers is a less black hole experience than Scotch premier as they are more geared to private kills. Sheep were Thursdays from memory, mornings I think.

we have used grantown several times now and have always been pleased, private kill on a Thursday and they can reccomend a local butcher (Tony) who does a great job!

Latest news on Inverurie is they're not doing private kills anymore :-\
My friend only discovered this a fortnight ago when she phoned to book hers in.

Will there be anywhere left soon? :-(((

HI there,
very old thread I know but wanted to know what updates anyone had on this topic ?
Has anyone had any experience with Dunbia from Elgin ?
-
Hi
We were chatting to a neighbour a couple of weeks back - Dunbia wanted to charge him £50 for private slaughter of a lamb.
We've asked Dunbia about cattle in the past - they want £150 and wont' do over 30 month cattle for privates. They quoted £50 for a sheep, which came down to £25 if we promised to use them for the cattle too.
You'll get a better service from Millers at Grantown - they do lambs for £20 and Louise is very helpful.

Thanks Sue,
Hopefully they will continue to offer the service but they do state on their website that they are looking to increase the number of private kills that they handle which is promising

Hi,
Millers of Grantown!! As previously stated. We have always had good service, speak to Louise and she will sort you out. Believe she is married to Tony the butcher so she can arrange all that too! From the little I could see the animals appear to be treated with respect.

Used to used Dunbai in Elgin as I was pleased with how they handled the animals, didn't rush unloading, etc. but then they doubled the price of pigs overnight with no warning when booking in so wasn't best pleased. Other friends locally rated Millers so we gave them a try and haven't been disappointed. Pigs are Wednesday, sheep are currently a Tuesday. They have CCTV so if you go in the wee office next to the lairage you can see what's going on inside. Realistic pricing and normally no charge for delivery if they already supply the butcher you're using. They've not lost any of our pigs yet. Louise is friendly and helpful. I was a bit worried with the last pigs we out away as a double decker lorry had just unloaded. My pigs tend to be a bit freaked by the noise a large amount of commercials make but mine were sent straight through instead of being made to wait their turn - so much less stressful for them. As you can tell, I'm a convert!

Thanks for the replies - there isnt much to think about from what everyone has said - its gotta be Millers.
Its good to know that when we need them, we've got someone local who actually seem to care about what they do.
