Title: injecting
Post by: maddy on February 10, 2013, 11:57:39 am
Another very basic question, do I inject my sheep under the armpit where there is no wool?  I am used to injecting my goats (but hate doing it).

Also does it matter that they are wet and muddy or should they dry off before I do it?

I have always injected mine at the back of the neck, I would always pick a clean dry spot.

For subcutaneous, the recommended spot is on the neck - part the fleece, lift the skin, and push the needle into the 'tent' so formed.  You should find the skin itself clean and dry, as it's been covered by fleece  :)

You can download the Eblex ''Parasite control guide" booklet from the sheep literature page (http://www.eblex.org.uk/returns/Better-returns-sheep.aspx).  In the booklet they show and describe recommended methods and sites for s/c, i/m injections, drenches and pour-ons
