Title: wood ash
Post by: northfifeduckling on February 06, 2013, 02:09:42 pm
does anyone have clear advice on where to put it and which fruit and veg definitely don't agree with it?? I heard Roses, soft fruit and fruit trees (to avoid bitter pip disease) , now OH found an article from the RHS and it's a no for all of these as too alkaline. I'm quite confused. Brassicas do like it alkaline, so it would be good worked in there? Blueberries in pots?  :&>

Not sure about the others, but I thought blueberries liked acid soil in any case?  ???

Onions and all alliums love woodash for the potassium, as do tomatoes and their family.  I put it around all stone fruit trees and use it on pastureland.  I suppose it depends on how acid/alkali your ground is.

As a rule of thumb, green leafy growth comes from nitrogen (manure) and flower set comes from potassium (woodash/comfrey)
