Title: R.I.P cocky
Post by: ayrt1010 on February 03, 2013, 07:52:22 am
We have had hens for 9 months now. Last summer we hatched 2 light Sussex chicks. 1 m, 1 f , the male was a beauty, but on Friday he went missing. Last night hubby found him minus his head, poor cocky

Shame  :( We have two foxes around here - hear them barking at night and saw one last night. Dogs saw it off, but it will be back.

What was even more upsetting for the children was that when he hatched out we thought he was dead then, as he had fallen from the nesting box. We put him in the oven on a very low temp and within 1/2 hour he was chirping away. :'(

Very sorry to hear this. Always a shame, especially for the children. We lost 75% of our little flock few weeks back, 2 foxes now no longer with us but still a few to go before we replenish our birds.
