looking for information on locating good second hand deep cycle batteries,
i know this is going to sound stupid but,
ive heard/read ups batteries are good/cheap,BUT are these ups/uninterruptible power supply batteries or used batteries from ups the courier ? this part has never being made clear when ive looked into buying used batteries.

Hi again,
UPS refers to uninterruptible power supplies: basically a battery, an inverter and a battery charger in one unit which are used by Telecoms and IT people to keep their computers/systems running when the mains fails - The batteries spend most of the time on float charge and so when they come up for replacement (after a specified design lifetime) they are still like new.
and sometimes batteries show up for sale like these:

They can be very good, esp. those that you can verify have come from a UPS and have not been abused/neglected (not sure about above example). But in recent years it has been hard to find good ones at a good price.
