This is made from Romney and Coloured Ryeland fleece which I washed and carded first.
It seems to work better this way than the unwashed, uncarded fleece I did previously.
-
 I just want to bury my hands in that, Sally ! :)
-
:trophy: That looks great, Bionic.

Wonderful......a wall hanging would be fantastic......as much as I love the white I can see it would get dirty very very quickly in this doggie house!!

Lovely! I have a peg loom.... :innocent:
-
I could see myself enjoying making stuff on a loom, like I said, a wall hanging...wonder if you could do a sort of tartan?
-
That's gorgeous, I've only ever used uncarded fleece but seeing yours, I'll have to have a go now  . Well done you - you must delighted with what you've achieved in general on your smallholding in such a short space of time  .

Very nice ;D

Sandy, this would also get very dirty here but I have made it especially for the guest room (no dogs allowed)

Wow Sally! I'd be chuffed to bits if I could make something like that out of my GFD fleece - am feeling inspired....

A lovely piece Sally, I'm sure it would look better in my house ;)

Blackbird it was soooo simple to do. It could even be done by a child. Do give it a go with your GFD fleece.

How long roughly would you say that it took you to complete, Sally?
My neighbour has just given me some hand carders (is that what they are called ??? ) that belonged to his late wife so think I can prepare some Soay fleece in the Spring. If so, I think I might have a go at a peg loom rug.
-
ITH, if you don't include the carding then I would say it probably only took about 4-6 hours.

I do not let the dogs in the bedrooms.......that rug is so very pretty, it would also make a great shower or bathroom rug....are they easy to wash and dry?
So love that look.......I think Bloomers wife had some for sale but they were not shifting too fast, thats such a shame as I love them...I still have a peg rug but its too heavy to wash in my washing machine and now it stinks of damp dogs ::)
-
Oh that is beautiful

Wow Boinic, very inspirational and beautiful!
Glad you said you use washed and carded fleece as I'm off for a day course weaving tomorrow and the fleece I have prepared is washed and carded! ;)
I also tried spinning some uncarded but it came out much cleaner looking after being carded.
Can't believe you managed that rug in such a short time!...... What'll be next? :D
-
Sandy,
It can be washed but all that fleece gets very heavy. I washed the small one I made as it was done with unwashed fleece. I washed it in the sink and it still smelt sheepy so put some conditioner in the final rinse. I then spun dried it in the washing machine and put in the airing cupboard to dry completely.
STS, not sure what to do next but I may make something using material for a change.

The kids at the Youth Club loughed making peg rugs. We used carded wool but to make them a bit stronger we put in one to and fro with yarn every so of. Sorry, when it comes to weaving terms I am better in Danish than English :(
-
btw Bionic, what did you use in the way of plied/ single spun wool?
-
Sally, that's gorgeous and I'm now thinking I need a drum carder so I can make some myself. When I was weaving for a living, rugs like this were one of my best sellers, and, as you said, so quick to make. What width is your loom?
