after my first year last year of keeping pigs i realise that for a beginner like myself theres a large element of luck required,,, i overwintered 7 KKs last year, it was a mild winter...... last autumn i decided not to get any new pigs to overwinter this year. mainly cos the 2 freezers are full of pork............ GOOD DECISION I THINK IN HINDSIGHT

Yes Harry, Wise descision especially since feed has gone up another £10 this month  We have also had the fewest pigs we've had for a while thro this winter too. And it is something i am actively working into farrowing programme so we won't have big numbers in the hardest time of the year. I think this is the hardest year so far with abysmal weather, atrotious growing conditions and increasing costs (see fuel is set to go up again  )
Its really a case of trying to hang on in there and not overextending what you can manage.
Roll on Spring................

Yes, I think a lot of people cut back on numbers because of the poor Summer and I glad I was one of them. It's been a challenging year for all classes of stock (and humans too!)
