Title: Good kidding run ended
Post by: Brucklay on January 24, 2013, 11:01:55 am
Well I haven't post all our kidding info as I didn't want to jinks things but it happened anyway. 2.30am woken up by the 'baby monitor' - up to the goat shed and Cloud was pushing - all seemed fine then no progress, I couldn't feel the head so called the vet out - he had no luck either so had to do a c-section. We lost the kid but Cloud seems to be doing ok although is shaking a bit, she's under a heat lamp and has had a nibble of ready grass.

May seem a bit gruesome but I weighed the kid - 4lbs which I believe is on the large side for pygmy kids if only she had 2 x 2lbs kids the outcome could have been way different. I didn't up her feed for fear of this so I don't know what else I could have done.

So feeling pretty down - loosing one does knock you for six  :'( :'(

Oh Clare what a shame poor Cloud will wonder where her baby has gone, hope she recovers quickly  :bouquet:    What a good job you had a baby monitor rigged up, think I should get myself one as Gobo is now on day 143.

Oh that's sad, but it happens and you managed to save the nanny, so that's good. Yes it still knocks you for six... I know. Hopefully mum will recover quickly...

I think it is difficult to gauge the size of the kid and if you are sure you didn't overfeed, there really isn't much you can do...

Och Brucklay, just caught up with this, what a shame.  Sounds like you have had a good run up to now but it is a pity for wee Cloud, hope she's in good health now and that you're feeling a bit more upbeat yourself.
