OH and I have cleared out the spare bedroom/junk room and it's now set up as a weaving studio. My warping board was delivered and is now assembled. Tomorrow I weave. Well, tomorrow I wind the warp and start setting up the loom. :excited: Will post piccies soon.
I now have one bedroom as a study and one as a studio. I do let my OH share the one I have as a bedroom though. Don't want to be greedy and have the whole of upstairs.

Looking forward to the piccies, wish in had a spare room to do things :huff:

I am so jealous.... no emotiwhatsit for that I think... I can only use the dining table for weaving and all has to be cleared up before food....

How lovely to have the space for a weaving studio! :D Can't wait to see pics of your loom and all the lovely things you'll make. What's your first project going to be?
-
Excellent, can't wait for photos
PS, glad you let OH share your bedroom at least ;)
-
Great news. I can imagine you are nashing at the bit to get started. but slow down. Remember a well prepared warp is the secret of relaxed weaving.

Like everyone else, I can't wait to see the pics.

The warp is now wound. I'm making scarves in wool. The warp is dark brown. light brown and white and I'll do one in each of the three colours for the weft.
It all came back to me as soon as I started and I couldn't believe it's more than 18 years since I last wound a warp. It took me a lot longer though as I kept having to sit down and rest. I'm just going to have to let my body dictate how much I do at a time. Tomorrow I hope to warp up the loom, but that may take two sessions going on today. At least I'll be able to sit down for most of it. I want to go and do some more now but I'm being sensible.
I will go and look at it before I go to bed though. ;D

How exciting, I know that doing too much of one thing too long can result in strain and pain........so go steadily and enjoy!!
-
Ha, excellent
Yeh, doing anything you've not done for a while makes you ache, just gotta take it steady and develop your weaving muscles again ;D
-
It's the rheumatoid arthritis that is making me ache. Although finding those muscles again doesn't help. I was please with the amount of standing I was able to do. Dying to get up there and start warping. I think I'll be dreaming aobut weaving tonight. ;D

Those scarves will be lovely and warm. How long is your warp?
-
It's 7 yards to allow for wastage. I'm just resting after doing the goats then I'll be up in my studio to start work. :excited:

oooh, good stuff :excited: :excited:

It took AGES just to get the warp wound onto the loom. I'm never, ever going to use a fluffy yarn for a warp again. With OH doing the winding on and me pulling and cutting bits of fuff that were joining two strands together, it took well over an hour just to wind on. Not including the time it took me to repair the ones that pulled apart. That was after I had done all the rest. I now ache all over and I still have the milking to do.
Never mind, tomorrow I can start threading up.
-
Your yarn that you are weaving sounds lovely, it sounds hard going using fluffy stuff though
If it's any help, my favourite scarf is a mohair as it is so fluffy-soft and warm.
-
Started threading the heddles today but I was in pain so didn't do as much as I would have liked.. Still :excited: by it all though.
Mammyshaz the yarn is lovely but I would have been better using it for weft and having a different yarn in simialr colour for warp. I have a feeling I am going to have quite a few broken warps as it tends to pull apart. Annoying, because I did pull on one piece to test it for strength before I started and it seemed fine.

Even more looking forward to coming over now, the warping up is the bit that's always put me off weaving. I'll have to give it another go sometime.

So sorry it is a painful job for you. My brother wanted me to move back to England but I knew the climate wouldn't suit me. Hope you can find an easier position when you start weaving and that the warp holds out. :fc:

It is now all warped up and ready to start weaving. the paln was to do some today but when I went for my rheumatology appointment I was told I needed to go to the hospital for a chest xray as I'm starting a new drug (as well as the other one). by the time I had been to the clinic, collected prescriptions and some a very small amount of shopping I needed to come home and rest, then the trip to the hospital this afternoon finished me off for more than sitting down. Tomorrow, assuming I don't have any of the nasty side effects that are common, I hope to make a good start. I have taken photos of the loom set up and will post them on here tomorrow.

I enjoy warping up. What I need is something more suitable to sit on so I am in a better position. I should have woven a bit by the time you come.
