Title: Lucky Penny, not.
Post by: hughesy on January 14, 2013, 12:56:53 pm
Yesterday morning I was walking down to the local shop for a bottle of milk when I spotted a nice shiny penny at the side of the road. Remembering the old saying "See a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have good luck", I put it in my pocket. Then yesterday afternoon my bloody tractor broke down.
Then this morning I fed the chickens. They were all ok. I went to get water for them and when I came back five minutes later my Light Sussex cockerel, Shagger, who we've had since he was an egg and has been absolutely brilliant, had keeled over and died. One minute he was fine and the next he was dead. No injuries or anything he must have had a heart attack or something.
So next time I see a shiny penny in the gutter I'll bloody leave it there.

I always say "see a penny pick it up, all the day you`ll have bad luck."  This works for me.

Picking up a lost penny and keeping it for yourself is technically theft. So you deserve all you get. What has happened to standards in the UK -that's why we left.

Next time put it in a charity box!!!

Sorry about your cockerel Hughesy. Sounds like a heart attack. Assume his comb was purple.

I thought that you had to give the penny away to get the luck  ???

Sorry, poor old Shagger  :bouquet:  Least it was a quick end.

Thanks for the sympathy folks. We'll miss Shagger he was our longest serving (pardon the pun) cock and was loved by everyone who met him. Luckily I kept a youngster on from the last hatch and he'll be ready to take up the reins anytime now.
