Title: Done it!
Post by: Lesley Silvester on January 08, 2013, 11:14:36 pm
Finally, Curry is booked into the abbatoir so all those cynics who thought I couldn't do it......

Ok, I'll admit the truth.  Dogwalker offered to take him when she took her boy, so she booked him in, but I'll be the one breaking the news to him.   ;D

Oh, well done!!  How old/big is Curry now.  I remember you saying you were keeping him longer as he was not big enough. I assume he has gown more.

Curry is now 18 months old and huge.  Hope we've got enough freezer space.  Actually we haven't as it's full of bread for the goats, but I have time before 4th to get it all cut up and dried in the oven.

I did tell Curry last night but he was more interested in what was in my hand (bread) at the time.   :roflanim:

And yes, Carl, I reckon Curry will make a good Curry.  Will report back later.

And have you ordered the tags? ::) ;)

I've had the trailer tyre repaired and am half-way through making a partition.  Put everything away to come and eat lunch and picked up a phone message from the person I was going to work for this afternoon saying she's got flu so best not to go and catch it.  Just finishing a cuppa to keep me warm while I go and finish it the job. Cold out there today!

Isn't bread bad for goats? I understand that it can kill sheep, not sure if it causes bloat or something.

Was going to order the tags today but had loads of visitors.  Tomorrow definitely.

Too much bread is bad for them (how ever much too much is).  I dry mine in the oven and they enjoy crunching a few pieces.

You need more goats, too many makes it easier.  Once the deed is done, it is easier to cope with, its the run up that's the problem.  It is hard for everyone remember, but doable - stay focused.

Gp, thre garden isn't big enough for any more.  Now if I had land....

Brucklay, I've been chickening out for months.  If I didn't have someone to take him for me, I dare say he'd have died of old age.   ;D

I admire you MGM - when puffin kidded last year we'd decided any girls we'd keep - boys would go to a work colleague of tony's who rears them till about 8 months then has them slaughtered. Of course we got a single boy...same day, our kids had been soooooooo bullied at school we decided to never send them there again- decision made as I pulled single kid out of mum who was struggling. SIxpence is one lucky boy!!
I'd like to think I could make that decision, rear our own to eat our home happily kept stock but I'm still useless!! Well done you xx

I knew you would ask that.  I keep forgetting.  I did look on the site but it doesn't look as if they do online ordering so I will need to go somewhere I cna order them in person.  Will definitely do it this week.

Can you just phone the agri store to order them.
They'll need your cph and flock number.
I think because he's more than 12 months he needs to be double tagged.  So minimum order of 10 tags, flock number and individual numbers 1 - 5 in pairs, any colour except yellow, red or black.

Don't leave it too late in case of hold ups. Although by the forecast for Friday I may be snowed in for a while

You can order online from Ketchums, and I can highly reccommend their speedy service ;)
