Title: Our first market tomorrow
Post by: MAK on December 22, 2012, 06:49:23 am
We will be up and out by 7:00 tomorrow to set up our craft stall for a 12 hour christmas market. We have opted to do a large variety of crafts from wooden jigsaws, wooden candlesticks to fluffy toys and baby clothes. All made by us and a good spread of items from 2€ to 65€ for young and not so young.
We have made baskets full of different jams but otherwise no other produce.
:sunshine: and 18 degrees on Monday and mild tomorrow so should be a good day.  :fc: that we make a few bob and learn what sells for future markets.

Good Luck Mak - enjoy  :)  I love selling our produce at markets/fairs. So nice to actually chat to people (not the same with online shop is it!) x

Many thanks everyone. I'll share the outcome on Monday.
Even if we make no money for all of 2013 having a market trader card will qualify us for health care cover - so cheaper than buying health insurance  ;D

Mary - we are offically classed as "inactive" as we do not work or receive a pension and despite EU law our local CPAM have declined an extension of our Carte Vital. We  can not be bothered to appeal.
I am not keen on buying health insurrance so registering as an auto entrepeneu ( market trading) is a great solution and a bit of fun.
That said winter grub is taking its toll. Chris has given up the gin but refuses to go for a run before we feed the stock each morning .

That's really pants, especially after they changed their minds about that law, Im not sure that they could exclude you from "the system" now. Still now you are an AE you're official. Each department should conform with the others. Do what I did when they first announced it...write to the president. I wrote it in poem form (in english) and sent it direct to Sarkozy AND I got a reply. I also sent a letter to our Euro MP (UK).
I was so worried as OH has such bad health, there was no way that he would have been insured, luckily though he is now over 65 so they cant touch him!!

so how did it go?

mmm- a bit of an ongoing saga really.
We set off at 07:00 for the 16 km jaunt but when we got there we were diverted an extra 5 km around the small town. The car broke down just 1.5 km from "entrance number 2". I then ran most of the way to "check in" and ensure we could gain late entry to the market. Chris waited in the dark between 2 industrial estates next to a travellers camp for a friend to help us. He towed us ( I ran back to the car) as near to the exhibitors entrance ( now closed) as he could. One offical told me that we were too late but another sorted out a great pitch in our own tent with tables and electricity. UNFORTUNATELY ( polite term) I had our gazebo on one shoulder and one table in the other hand at the time.
I then made many trips back to the car for our "stuff" shedding jacket, jumper then shirt. It was mild but I was the one in the T shirt.
In short there were over 70 stands, a general market, food stalls and numerous "spectaculars". The number and variety of stuff on sale was mind blowing but then most were there for the "spectaculars" - we enjoyed them. Chris got a lift home with a friend who is phobic of main roads and returned after 2 hours with the other car. We took most of our produce home after loading up the unused gazebo, tables and low valued unsold stock in the duff car. Got home at 21:00, ate and bed at 22:00. Today we arranged collection of the duff car for wednesday morning and repair at a garrage near us. I will empty it tomorrow and on Wednesday afternoon I now have to make 2 trips to the airport to collect family.
Dam cars !
The market was OK but we are pleased that we are not trying to earn our crusts from it.

Merry Christmas

Put it down to experience, all part of the learning curve

A day to remember, even if you would prefer to forget it.
