I hope this isn't too silly a question but which one is in season? The one standing or the one mounting?
Googling has made me think it is the one mounting whereas I thought it was the other way round.
Any advice.greatly received. Thanks Fu

The one standing still, if she doesn't stand it's the one riding. There's quite often a slimey discharge from the true one aswell.

What you're looking for is "standing heat" - ie a cow that will stand to be mounted (by another cow or preferably a bull (or the bull in the bowler hat ;) ).

Hi Rosemary,
My worry is that the one standing is the Shetland (the fat one!) who had been scanned pregnant a few weeks ago. I am thinking that she may have lost it.

Oh :( That doesn't sound good, no. Mark the date and watch her like a hawk in 3 weeks time. Also look out for bloody slime in the day or two after she was standing.

Just wach her ike a hawk - my two Shetlands seem to cycle on 16 and 23 days respectively. I've got Kamar heat detectors if you want one - happy to post at cost.
