Title: APG and coats/jackets/rugs
Post by: Luce747 on December 13, 2012, 12:32:22 pm
Does anyone else put coats on African Pygmy Goats?
I have a herd of 8 and they seem to be coping well with the freezing temps but I was thinking of putting a coat on the kid but people tell me I'm daft because its -40 at night in Africa... ?
They have a field shelter but are not shut away at night.

If they don't shiver, are all happy and healthy I wouldn't bother. But it would be good to have a couple of coats in reserve in case they do get ill, then they are really needed. Just a doggy one will probably do for yours!

thank you - I have noticed a couple of them shivering on cold mornings which is what prompted me to see if coats were the done thing or not. I think I'll start offering warm beet if it is particularly cold and see if that helps.
There are 8 of them and they have a shelter so would have thought they can huddle and keep pretty warm.
