Looking good but is that chip board your using ?
If it is when it gets wet it will disintegrate

i hate to say it, but i have to agree. should have been wbp ply, pressure treated. i build lots of stables and chipboard disintegrates especially with urine.

to offer a solution i would heavily paint it using thompsons weatherproofing solution, its like a rubberised paint. hope this helps.

What is wpb ply?  I am planning an extension to the goat shed.

weather and boilproof.  exterior grade ply.

We used marine ply for our pig pen, lasted years. Am guessing that's the same as wbp?

MIght have to look into osb3 Carl. My 2 youngest goats have taken apart a tongue and groove shed in 2 days! Literally made themself a 'goat flap' and then increased the size of it till we had a 2 and a half sided building. So angry. Tony has reinforced it now with panels of something, I daren't go out to see what. All I could hear yesterday was a hammer and so many expletives!!

Oh dear.   :roflanim:

When we moved here, there was a tongue and groove garden shed which became the goat shed.  I had been lined with hardboard presumably for insulation.  After nearly six years that is rotting at the bottom from all the contact with wee and the top is well chewed.

Not long now.  Are you getting another to keep her company or relying on her kid to do that?

I'm going to rely on her kid.. Had a bit of a fallout with the owner so the sooner I see the back of her the better.... Anyway more update pics

Looking good!

I hope you are able to collect her as planned :-\
Can I make one suggestion though?? :sofa: :roflanim:

The free ends of wire on your fencing (the sticky up bits) I would nip them over a wee bit with a pair of pliers so the ends aren't sharp. I had similar on part of my goat fencing and when Gillephant launched herself over it, had she had a full udder she would have caused herself a nasty injury. Fortunately she was dry at the time, but I went straight to the tool shed for my pliers   Doubled the wire over for about an inch = job done ;D

I'm hoping she can't jump that high but after seeing how high my friends pigmy jumps that might be a good idea CW thanks for that

Do you think the bolt on the gate is strong enough??
Title: Re: Goat shed
Post by: ballingall on January 12, 2013, 09:09:03 pm
Yes, but I think you need another one at the bottom (or a kickbar/turnbutton) because she will put her feet on the wooden spar at the bottom.

Am with Beth - one on the bottom as you'll find the goats will lean and rub against the fencing/gate and it will bow out before you know it!  we have had to double bolt all of ours now  :)

Looking goo  d....and I just remembered, when my children were small we bought a big desk for my husbands office, I made him take it out carefuly and turned the cardboard box into a play house, that thing was still standing after years of rain!!!!
I also build a hen run but took it down recently and that too was tough, just used bits that I found, wood is so expensive.
I so would love to build a log cabin from real logs!!!
