Title: Wheat Bags

Hi,
Can anyone tell what sort of wheat is used in Wheat bags and if ordinary (chicken feed) wheat what do I have to do to it before putting into a bag.

I think it's just ordinary wheat (which used to be cheap), if you mean the kind you heat in the microwave then put round your neck.  I don't think you have to do anything to it, although adding lavender is nice.  Just don't let it get wet before its first trip in the microwave  :D

My knees are bad at the moment so I have to keep swapping my 'one' wheat bag (a present last christmas) from one knee to the other so thought I'd make two - or three then I could have one for my back - or four one for my neck.....
 
Good idea about the lavender might help me sleep better as I take the bag to bed.  I did think about putting some velcro straps on to keep the knee ones in place at night.
 
By the way I finaly finished the fingerless wrist warmers  :knit:  I started last winter with the wool you gave me. Thanks you again for the wool. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Velcro is a brilliant idea.  I have an electrically heated pad I use for my back and knees but like my wheat one for my neck.

My Granny always wore knitted knee warmers under her stockings.  Wool really does warm you so maybe you should wear some under the wheat bags.  I know it's something I want to make for myself too now my knees are creaky  :tired:   I think Shetland wool would be perfect - soft and elastic.

Just any nice fabric Dans, also worth making an extra cotton cover (think mini pillow case) which you can wash when required, since the bags themselves can get grubby over time and you dont want to wet them.

I've just been searching Ravelry for Knee Warmers.   Used to have them years ago, and they are brilliant as I suffer from cold knees.    Loads of different patterns so may go for cable ones this time  :excited: although they do get covered in straw and haylage and......all sorts  :roflanim: so will have to make a few pairs, me thinks  :knit:
