I know that Rosemary has made 2 (some people are never satisfied with one) and I have made a small one myself.
I am going to decorate it a bit near to christmas. How about we have a christmas cake show off? Perhaps the week before christmas?

Not me as I left it too late :-[ Have bought an undecorated M&S fruit cake and will douse with brandy now and again and decorate nearer Christmas. No one will ever know :innocent: :innocent: :innocent: :innocent:

Yes, they will now you've put it on here. :roflanim:
I don't bother any more as we spend the day with my daughter and none of her family eat it. Although we do have elder son coming for Boxing Day so that could be a good excuse. Hmmm.
My recipe ( a Victorian one called Mrs Putnam's Wedding Cake) has the alcohol cooked into it so I can make it any time. Hmmm again.

First year since being married that I've not made one. Been an awful few weeks so didn't feel up to it. Next years will be an alcoholic corker though
-
Plums, you could do MGM's one still and if not like the sound of next years one

oh yes, I missed that post - might do that!

Just let me know if you want the recipe. It makes two cakes and contains quarter pint of red wine and quarter pint of brandy. :yum: HIc!
-
I haven't made one as I can't stand fruitcake and hubby on a cholesterol diet so he's not allowed. ;D
-
My aunt always makes mine and its stashed away in the Xmas cupboard away from OH as he wants to eat it now. :yum:
The last time i made an xmas cake myself even the birds wouldn't eat it :-[ :-[ so never tried since!

Ive made one, but my icing ability isnt very good, so Ill see how it turns out first!!!

Mary, if I use Royal Icing I can only manage a snow scene as a smooth finish doesn't matter. This time I have bought fondant icing so I am hoping I can make it look a bit posher.

I'll bake a Stollen next week, when I'm back home (am house and cat sitting at the moment). Every shop now seems to sell it here - and none of it is actually Stollen; it's all just more or less nice fruitbread with marzipan in it... So I decided to make the real thing this year myself! Without marzipan, of course. (I'll eat that separate! ;D )

PLEEAASSSEEE Ina can I have the recipe for your Stollen? I'd really love to make one this year. Many thanks, Mary.

I'm using my aunt's recipe - got it at home, so can't give it now... You might need to remind me next week!

Not made a Christmas cake this year. I normally make an eggless & sugarless one ( I know that sounds naff but it is quite nice :yum: ). I had ago at Christmas pudding for the first time last year ( defiantly buying one this year :innocent: ).

I never put sugar in heavy fruitcake like this - find it almost too sweet even without! And I've made cakes like this for vegans in the past; you are right, eggs aren't really necessary.
The marzipan has sugar, of course. And I never eat the icing anyway...

Made mine at the begining of October - took a peek last week and it looks okay so sloshed a bit more brandy over it (need a drucken smilie or a glass of wine)
-
Doing mine today or tomorrow - a bit late, but I can't think about Christmas until after RWAS winter fair.

Ina can I have the recipe as well please?

Patience, patience... I'll put it on here once I get home. Saw another "alleged" Stollen at the market yesterday . Seems to be fashionable to call any loaf with fruit in Stollen these days... ::)
-
Posting it under recipes!

Thank you.

Mine is done and being soaked in a quarter of a bottle of brandy. I baked it about 3 weeks ago.
I shall marzipan it the week before Christmas and ice it about 2 days before Christmas Eve.
I love doing my Christmas cake each year, and particularly love having a husband who'll eat it with me :)
It never looks glamorous. Just simple.
But it makes me happy when it is all done.

We should all post photos of the finished cake. Mine gets decorated with naff plastic santas and trees ::)

Okay - that guarantees it'll be iced this year :excited:
